Summary of the Derivas Day at EADTarragona
On Thursday, November 14th, we hosted an artistic debate day centered around the theme of rural depopulation.
As part of the "Pueblos mudados" project, supported by the Tarragona Provincial Council, the Tarragona School of Art and Design welcomed several speakers who prompted us to think, discuss, and take action on the issue of depopulation.
To kick off, Vanessa Freixa, a shepherd and illustrator, championed the idea that another society is possible and helped us become more aware of the small changes we can make both personally and through art. She led a workshop for the painting students and gave a thought-provoking lecture that resonated with both students and faculty at the Piscina Space.
Next, cultural manager and communicator Gemma Carbó shared the initiatives she leads at the Terra Museum – Carulla Foundation, which use creativity to address rural depopulation and other challenges related to climate change.
In the afternoon, we were treated to a moving performance by Boscúria, featuring Gemma Ventura and Xarim Aristé, who shared texts and poems set to intimate guitar music.
It was a distinctive day, where students from Jewelry, Painting, and Illustration had the chance to present their "protest" artworks in an exhibition.
