  • Familiarization with the company culture.
  • Gaining work experience as a preliminary step to their first job.
  • Starting their professional journey certified by the internship notebook.

Exemptions from Company Internships

Exemption is a right of the student but not an obligation. Internships are a crucial credit or professional module in the student’s training.

If the student proves they have partially or fully achieved these basic objectives through work experience, they can request a total or partial exemption from the internships.

Procedure and Resolution:

  1. Student (Requests)
  2. FCT Tutor (Checks documents)
  3. FCT Coordinator (Proposes)
  4. Director (Decides)

Deadline

Exemptions can be processed at any time before the final ordinary evaluation, but it is recommended to process them at the beginning of the academic year. Two partial exemptions cannot be combined.

Types of Exemptions

  • Exemption for Work Experience: The 100% exemption from the total hours of the credit or professional module of the training cycle, subject, or course is granted if the student proves work experience equivalent to or exceeding the hours of the training credit or module in a work center. This experience must be related to the professional profile and job roles and responsibilities of the training cycle.
  • Exemption for Validation or Recognition of Work Experience: People who have recognized and certified all the formative units (UF) at least of one professional module or credit directly related to the competency units of the training cycle, through:

    • Academic recognition of the learning achieved through work experience or social activities, according to Resolution ENS/1891/2012, of August 23, organizing various flexibility measures and actions in initial vocational training.

These individuals may be completely exempt from the training credit or module in work centers.

Certification

Certification is provided by the official certificate issued by the teaching center that has carried out the academic recognition of learning achieved through work experience or the procedure for evaluating and certifying professional competencies.

If this certification corresponds to professional modules or transversal credits to one or more training cycles, the student must provide evidence of the experience acquired in the professional profile of the training cycle for which the exemption is requested.

Partial Exemptions

A partial exemption of 50% of the total hours of the credit or module of the training cycle, subject, or course is granted if the student proves work experience equivalent to or exceeding 50% of the hours of the training credit or module in work centers, related to the professional scope and the main job roles of the training cycle.

A partial exemption of 25% of the total hours of the credit or module of the training cycle, subject, or course is granted if the student proves work experience in any professional activity. The student must prove at least twice the hours of the training credit or module for which the exemption is requested.

General Certification and Documentation

The student must present documents that prove work experience, current or prior, in companies or institutions, performing tasks or functions corresponding to each exemption case.

The application must be submitted in writing and must be accompanied by the corresponding proof documents described in each exemption case. The documentation must be original or a certified copy.
