TRANSITION. From the 19^th to the 20^th century

In addition to the sculptor Julio Antonio, other artists would experience the passing of the 19^th century in the Tarragona regions. While in painting, artists such as Josep Tapiró, Josep Sancho Piqué, José Nogué Massó and Antoni Torres Fuster adopted academicist guidelines, in other words, established rules generally considered to be “classical” by an Academy of Art, in sculpture Santiago Costa, Josep Cañas and Josep Pujol Muntané opened themselves up to new trends and crossed frontiers, by taking risks with new and unconventional forms in their creations.
