ARTISTS CONTEMPORANS

In recent years, works by 47 male artists and 5 female artists have been exhibited at the MAMT. Regarding the collection's content, in the general catalog there are 25% female artists. These data demonstrate the urgency of remedial action.

The objective of this exhibition is to give visibility to works by women artists that were in the MAMT reserves and to incorporate others that are not there, through acquisition or loan with a commitment to purchase. A selection of artists with a consolidated training and career has been proposed within lines of research in contemporary languages ​​and with national-international consideration and experience. The intention is to restore the authors to the entire collection and exhibit their works in a way that redresses the gender imbalance.

The exhibitions and catalogs of the “Plural femení” cycle that the MAMT produced during the years 2016-17, curated by Antonio Salcedo, created a broad inventory of women artists from the territory of different generations and a data bank on their contributions. Likewise, the MAMT Pedagògic dedicated the 2016 Art and Museum Pedagogy Conference to the gender perspective and the 2023 conference to feminist education.

With the action of restoring works by contemporary women artists to the MAMT fund, a further step is taken, acting on the collection and the permanent or semi-permanent exhibition of the MAMT. A large, although limited, number of our most recognized female creators is introduced and an ethical code is established that tends towards parity in the consideration of male, female and non-binary artists, with the aim of no longer needing to hold more exhibitions. of women, nor establish comparisons, nor make restitutions. We must find a point at which gender differences are erased, even in language, and the concept of contemporary artists becomes a reality.
